The world is reminded of this in David McCullough’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book “John Adams” where America learns, it seems, for the first time about the brilliant John Adams – America’s Second President. All Americans are taught and know about the greatness of Washington, the military leader, and Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence. This country’s first and third Presidents.
McCullough’s epic biography introduces us to the powerful and brilliant Adams, a lawyer from Massachusetts. “He was our Colossus,” said one of his contemporaries who helped form the first nation founded under the rule of law. And that was one of Adams’ guiding principles throughout his life. He showed it when he defended the British soldiers who were accused of murder in the Boston Massacre, right before the American Revolution.
